Getting support

For freelance artists the social standstill during the Corona crisis means a complete loss of income. Many students lose their part-time jobs because of the epidemic. On this page you will find a selection of offers of help.

Emergency fund of the Studierendenwerk

The Studierendenwerk Freiburg supports students who have fallen into acute economic distress due to the Corona pandemic, which is not covered by other social benefits or funding opportunities.

The Studierendenwerk is supported by the emergency aid fund for students by the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg.

Information collection of the Deutscher Kulturrat

The Deutscher Kulturrat has compiled an overview of the aid measures provided by the federal and state governments. Here you will also find a corresponding overview of the aid offered by Baden-Württemberg, and aid offered from the cultural and media sector.


The Künstlersozialkasse offers payment facilities or a deferment of payment. Details can be found under "Current information on the consequences of the Corona pandemic" on the website of the Künstlersozialkasse.

Recommendations of the Deutsche Orchestervereinigung

The Deutsche Orchestervereinigung has created a <a class="external-link" href="https://www.dov.org/oeffentliche_meldungen/aktualisiert-leitfaden-fuer-freischaffende-der-corona-krise">guide for freelancers</a> in the Corona crisis on its website.


Emergency programmes of collecting societies

GEMA has set up an emergency aid programme for its members.

The Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten (society for the exploitation of neighbouring rights) also makes aid payments. Information on this can be found on the GVL website.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research has compiled information on its website about Corona and BAföG.

KfW student loans

From 8 May 2020, the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) will grant interest-free student loans of up to 650 € per month. The loans can also be taken up by foreign students. Details can be found on the KfW website.
