Information for outgoing students

Students should plan their exchange stay abroad as early as possible. Information concerning exchange opportunities and financing  you can get directly at the International Office or visit the information meetings "study abroad" offered by the International Office once every semester.

Please mind: you have to apply for an outgoing exchange with the form "Antrag auf ein Auslandsstudium" until 31 January of the relevant year  at the International Office of Freiburg University of Music!

 

Exchange within Europe

Freiburg University of Music is taking part at the Erasmus+ program of the European Union (2021-2027)  The program supports exchanges to European Universities of the 27 EU countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungaria, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic. Also to the following further countries: Great-Britain, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Macedonia (FYROM), Norway and Turkey.

Switzerland momentarily is not taking part at the Erasmus+ program, exchange stays nevertheless are possible and may be financially supported by the Swiss partners.

Students can stay for one or two semesters starting from their second year at partner Universities of the above mentioned nations. In  Erasmus+ students are able to exchange up to twelve months during every study level (Bachelor, Master, Doctoral level) in European program countries.

Financial support

Financial support of Erasmus+ student exchanges are referring to the different levels of living costs in the program countries. There are three levels of country categories for student mobilities fixed by the National Agency DAAD. You can find the current funding levels (in German only) here.

 


Application

In order to apply for ERASMUS+ student mobility, please check the application procedure and deadlines of the  partner institutions you would apply for on their respective websites!
For most partner institutions you need to apply on the new application platform EASY-MO, which will be activated as of 15 Februar 2024.

You will usually need the following documents::

  • photo
  • CV
  • application videos as files for upload or permanent links (three different-style pieces, total length ca. 15 min.)
  • Motivation letter
  • optionally a transcript of records of your current study
  • optionally: recommendation letter of teacher

when accepted

  • Learning Agreement with the respective partner institution via OLA(Online Learning Agreement)

Exchange outside Europe

students exchanging for one or two semesters to one of the direct partner institutions of Freiburg University of Music can be financially supported through the Baden-Württemberg Scholarhip. Direct partner institutions are:

  • Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Sydney/Australien
  • Kyoto City Arts University, Faculty of Music, Kyoto/Japan
  • SOAI University, Osaka/Japan
  • University of Toronto Faculty of Music (Ontario/Kanada)
  • Staatskonservatorium Odessa/Ukraine
  • Eastman School of Music, Rochester (NY)/USA
  • Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, Bloomington (IN)/USA
  • School of Music, Theatre and Dance, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor(MI)/USA

The Baden-Württemberg Foundation is a non-profit company that supports the international exchange of highly-qualified students from Germany and abroad with its Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for university students. In addition to having the opportunity to study and conduct research abroad, students should also develop intercultural insights, gain experience to the benefit of their own personal development, and become familiar with and learn to appreciate other cultures. Therefore, the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for university students contributes substantially to international understanding.

The financial support of the sholarhip adds up to about 600-1400 EUR/months, depending on the study level. Basically every student of Freiburg University of Music or partner institutions may be supported in case of being chosen for an exchange abroad or at our University. Nevertheless there is no entitlement of being supported.

Students supported by the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM have to fulfill all the regular study requirements and have to report to the Foundation at the end of their stay. It is expected of the scholars if possible, to take part at the events organised by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, especially the annual scholars' reception. 

 

Application

In order to apply for an exchange to one of our direct partner institutions ask for information at the International Office at least one year in advance of your stay. The application procedures of the partner institutions differ strongly, please prepare the following  documents, which are needed nevertheless for every application:

  • Motivation Letter
  • photo
  • CV
  • application videos as files for upload or permanent links (three different-style pieces, total length ca. 15 min.)
  • Recommendation letter of teacher
  • Proof of English as a foreign language: TOEFL/IELTS for Australia and USA

 

Students exchanging have to apply for a sabbatical leave for the exchange semester.

 

Sabbatical leave for exchange semester (compulsory)

According to § 61 (1) Landeshochschulgesetz, ERASMUS-students and students exchanging through the  Baden-Württemberg Stipendium to a partner institution will be granted a sabbatical leave for the period of their studies abroad. The exchange semesters will be taken into account to the regular study period (exemptions possible in the Music Education course). Students have to apply for the sabbatical leave during the re-enrolment period for the relevant semester. Proof of acceptance at a partner institution has to be added. Forms are available at the students' office (room Nr. 235) or online.
