Application for summer semester 2026 auditions

Two steps are required to register for the entrance exam for the summer semester 2026:

Step 1: Online application

Registration for the entrance exam on the university portal is possible online 

from 1 November to 1 December 2025, 11:59 p.m.

Step 2: Submitting the documents (by post)

Your application for admission, including the documents to be submitted, must be sent in paper form by 1 December 2025 at the latest to:

 The postmark counts.

The incoming documents will be checked one by one and you will be notified promptly via the portal. Please keep checking back there.  

Please note

There is no entrance exam in the following degree programmes and subjects: Master Music Ensemble Singing and Saxophone (Bachelor Music (+EMP), Master Music, Konzertexamen).

For foreign-language applicants for the Master's degree programme in Music, admission requires proof of an official certificate of a passed language test type B1 CEFR (minimum level); see § 2a Enrolment Statutes

Dates of the entrance exams

23 February - 28 February 2026 (registration deadline 1 December 2025)

Special date for major subject orchestral conducting will take place for Bachelor Music on Wednesday, 28. January till Friday, 30. January 2026 and for Master Music on Thursday, 29. January and Friday, 30. January 2026.

Special date for Choral Conducting and Master of Church Music will take place on Monday, 02. February 2026

For foreign-language applicants for the Master's degree programme in Music, admission requires proof of an official certificate of a passed language test type B1 CEFR (minimum level); see § 2a of the enrolment regulations.

Deadlines

General Deadlines for auditions

  • for winter semesters (study start October): 1 April
  • for summer semesters (study start April): 1 December

Please note

  • The Master's degree programme in Music, major subject Music Education, can only be commenced in the winter semester.
  • For the polyvalent two-main subject Bachelor's programme in Music as an Artistic Subject (Music Teaching at Grammar Schools), the first semester can only begin in the winter semester, while university changers can also begin in the summer semester.
  • For the Freiburg Opera Studio Information on how to apply can be found here Freiburg Opera Studio.
  • In the Master's degree programme in Music, major subject "Orgel – Interprétation à l’orgue" and major subject „Orgelimprovisation – Improvisation à l’orgue“, an application must also be made to the University of Strasbourg (via the portal Mon Master) in parallel to the application to the Freiburg University of Music. For further information, please contact Prof. David Franke. Admission procedures for these majors only take place for the winter semester.

  • Completed registration form (PRINTOUT) including supplementary documentation
  • Passport photo (please stick on the registration form)
  • Complete, up-to-date curriculum vitae (in tabular form) with the essential information about the previous education and, if applicable, artistic activity

  • For FAB applicants: current school certificate stating anticipated high school graduation
  • For Bachelor of Music, Master of Music as well as Konzertexamen Freiburger Opernstudio applicants who are not German native speakers: certificate language test level B1; see § 2a of the Statutes on Enrollment
  • For minors: statement of consent by legal guardians

Application for Compensation for Disadvantages

The application for compensation for disadvantages is made informally by e-mail to . The application must specify and justify the desired examination modifications relating to the entrance exams. The relevant evidence and supporting documents must be enclosed.
