Application for winter semester 2026/2027 auditions

Registration for the Entrance Exams for the winter semester 2026/2027 has already been completed.

Dates of the entrance exams

08 June - 13 June 2026 (registration deadline 1 April 2026)

Special date for major subject orchestral conducting will take place from Monday, 11 May  to Tuesday,  12 May 2026.

Special date: Choral Conducting and Master of Church Music will take place on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Special date for major subject Elementary Music Pedagogy will take place from Wednesday, 03 June to Friday 05 June 2026

Application for summer semester 2027 auditions

Two steps are required to register for the entrance exam for the summer semester 2027:

Step 1: Online application

Registration for the entrance exam on the university portal (Hochschulportal) online 

from 1 October to 1 November 2026, 11:59 p.m.

Step 2: Submitting the documents (by post)

Your application for admission, including the required documents, must be sent in paper by 2 November 2026 (date as postmark) the latest, to:

The incoming documents will be checked one by one and you will be notified promptly via the portal. Please keep checking back there.  

Please note

There is no entrance exam in the following degree programmes and majors: Master Music Ensemble Voice and Saxophone (Bachelor Music (+EMP), Master Music, Concert Exam).

General Deadlines for auditions

  • for winter semesters (study start October): 1 April
  • for summer semesters (study start April): 1 November

Please note

  • The Teacher Training Programme Music Master's degree can only be commenced in the winter semester.
  • For Teacher Training Programme Music Bachelor's degree (polyvalent two-major Bachelor Music - Music Teaching at Grammar Schools), the first semester can only begin in the winter semester, while students changing universities can also begin in the summer semester.
  • How to apply for the Freiburg Opera Studio: Freiburg Opera Studio.
  • For the Master of Music, major  "Orgel – Interprétation à l’orgue" and major „Orgelimprovisation – Improvisation à l’orgue“, an application must also be made to the University of Strasbourg (via the portal Mon Master). For further information, please contact Prof. David Franke. Entrance exams only for the winter semester.

  • Completed registration form (PRINTOUT) including required documents
  • Passport photo (please stick on the registration form)
  • Complete, up-to-date curriculum vitae (in tabular form) with the essential information about the previous education and, if applicable, artistic activity
  • Proof of payment of the registration fee of € 50 (not for FAB applications) to the following bank account:

  • For FAB applicants: current school certificate stating anticipated high school graduation
  • For applicants from non-German-speaking countries: Proof of successful German language certification  (see § 2a of the Statutes on Enrolment)

    "1. CEFR Level C1 for the Teacher Training Programmes Music
    2. CEFR Level B2 for the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music programmes major Music Theory, major Musicology, and major Music Pedagogy, accordingly for the degree programmes of Freiburg Centre for Music Research and Teaching (FZM)
    3. CEFR Level B1 for the university’s other degree programmes and specializations
    (Concert Exam/Master Class programme: alternatively, proof of sufficient proficiency in English)

  • For minors: statement of consent by legal guardians

Application for Compensation for Disadvantages

The application for compensation for disadvantages is made informally by e-mail to . The application must specify and justify the desired examination modifications relating to the entrance exams. The relevant evidence and supporting documents must be enclosed.
