Elementary Music Pedagogy
Requirements in the entrance exam
a) The requirements for the aptitude test in the main instrumental or vocal subject correspond to the information given in section C.
b) Group examination (main subject instrument as well as comfortable clothing and gymnastic shoes [if not performing barefoot] must be brought along):
Improvisation and creative tasks on various topics set in the examination from the areas of: Movement, voice, playing with instruments of the large and small percussion section as well as on the main instrument/vocals.
c) Individual examination:
- Performance of a prepared song with at least two verses (unaccompanied).
- Individual interview with the commission (approx. 5 minutes): including reflection on the examination, motivation/future career profile.
d) A letter of motivation (approx. 2,500 characters including spaces) must be submitted with the application in which the applicant explains why he/she is applying for this degree programme at the Freiburg University of Music and how he/she envisages a successful course of study.
Elementary Music Pedagogy: Advanced Education / Music Pedagogy Continuing and Further Education
The master’s program “Elemental Music Pedagogy: Advanced Education / Music Pedagogy Continuing and Further Education” is a degree program offered by Freiburg University of Education in cooperation with Freiburg University of Music.
Requirements in the entrance exam
a) Artistic specialisation:
- Main instrument/voice (classical/jazz): Performance of three works from different styles.
or
- Composition: scores, concepts, videos and/or recordings must be submitted with the application. The letter of motivation should also explain the reasons for the specialisation. If you wish, you can improvise or perform a piece of your own choice.
or
- Main instruments Bağlama / Ney / Oud / Oriental Percussion / Latin Percussion or others according to availability: performance of at least three works of different character. Sight-reading or ad-hoc improvisation (approx. 10 minutes in total).
or
- Practical ear training: Harmonisation, improvisation and dialogue playing: Harmonisation and performance of a presented simple melody (preparation time: approx. 20 minutes). Students can improvise or perform a piece of their own choice if they wish.
b) The pedagogical part of the aptitude test consists of
- the performance of a prepared song with at least two verses (unaccompanied),
- an interview on the application documents submitted (approx. 15 minutes).
c) The following must be submitted with the application
- a letter of motivation (approx. 2,500 characters including spaces) in which the applicant explains why he/she is applying for this degree programme at the Freiburg University of Music and how he/she envisages a successful course of study,
- a video compilation of several sequences of your own teaching activities (both with groups and, if applicable, individual lessons) with a total duration of approximately seven minutes.
