Study content in the main subject module:

  • Development of differentiated and stylistically appropriate interpretations of demanding organ literature, with a focus on German and French organ literature and a particular emphasis on the differences between German and French interpretational aesthetics. The main subject lessons are given by organ professors from Germany and France.
  • Special emphasis is placed on the practical and artistic learning experience in lessons directly on or during excursions to important historical organs in the unique Franco-German organ landscape of the Upper Rhine Graben (organs by Andreas and Johann Andreas Silbermann, Eberhard Friedrich Walcker, Joseph Merklin, Aristide Cavaillé-Coll and others).

The intermediate examination takes place after the first year of study in Freiburg, the final examination after the second year of study in Strasbourg.

The studies in the main subject are accompanied by compulsory and compulsory elective modules in areas such as organ building, organ style, music theory, musicology and language skills.
