Prof. Kilian Herold will be on leave starting in the 2026/2027 winter semester

Kilian Herold, professor at Freiburg University of Music, will become the new principal clarinetist with the Berlin Philharmonic, thereby accepting one of the leading international positions in his field.

Starting in the 2026/2027 winter semester, he will take a leave of absence from his full-time duties at Freiburg University of Music. At the same time, he will remain closely connected to the university and the Freiburg clarinet class through a teaching contract.

The professorship will be filled by Prof. Anton Hollich, clarinetist with the “SWR Symphony Orchestra,” and Tomaž Močilnik, principal clarinetist of the “hr-Sinfonieorchester” Frankfurt. This ensures that the high quality of education in the clarinet program will be maintained.
