Violoncello

Musicians develop different areas of focus over the course of their careers. Some thrive in the role of a soloist or play full-time in an orchestra or choir, while others devote themselves to teaching and find fulfillment in this field. Many combine artistic and educational activities in their everyday professional lives. This is reflected in our Bachelor of Music degree program with an artistic profile for those aiming for a career as a performing musician and an artistic-pedagogical profile for teaching professions.

In the subject violoncello, we offer you the special opportunity to begin your studies with the artistic-pedagogical profile and, if you have the necessary artistic aptitude, to change your profile after the fourth semester. During your intermediate examination, the examination committee will decide whether you will be given the opportunity to switch to the artistic profile or to combine the profiles and prepare for both career options.

In the Bachelor of Music program in Elementary Music Education, you have the option of choosing classical violoncello or jazz and pop violoncello as your main instrumental subject.

Performance of an étude as well as at least three other works from different stylistic periods, including the first movement of a classical concerto.

The bachelor’s program “Bachelor of Music (Teacher Education)” qualifies students for a master’s program. It includes an scientific subject that is usually studied at Freiburg University. The bachelor’s program is followed by a four-semester master’s program “Master of Education (Secondary School Teacher Education)”, which qualifies students for the practical training phase as teacher at secondary schools in the artistic subject of music and an scientific subject (Referendariat).
